Rehabilitation in Germany

Rehabilitation

Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine in Germany

There is a strong tradition of Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy in Germany. Rehabilitation has been a focus of medical research and practice since the middle of the 19th century.

Our general philosophy on rehabilitation: Excellent surgery only lays the foundation for a complete recovery. The extent of recovery and the lasting benefit for the patient is dependant on qualified, dedicated and specialised rehabilitation.

The Theresienklinik is one of the leading clinics in cardiology, internal medicine and traumatologic and orthopaedic rehabilitation. The accommodation is modern and offers a comfortable, friendly and caring environment for international patients.

Theresienklinik has 347 beds and two independent, interdisciplinary departments for cardiology and orthopaedics.

Founded in 1981 as an interdisciplinary centre, the Theresienklinik is an experienced and established partner of the orthopaedic Gelenk-Klinik, for post surgical rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation with the modern Anti Gravity Treadmill

Anti Gravity Treadmill: The effect of gravity is partially or completely eliminated Anti Gravity Treadmill: The effect of gravity is partially or completely eliminated

What is the anti-gravity treadmill?

The modern anti gravity treadmill allows normal walking or running combined with an exactly controlled reduction of bodyweight.

While a normal pattern of gait is possible inside the anti gravity treadmill the effect of gravity is partially or completely eliminated. This is particularly beneficial for patients with painful joint conditions on the lower extremity (leg), overweight patients or for patients after surgery.

The application of anti gravity treadmill training is always preceded by a medical examination. The anti gravity training is supervised by a physiotherapist.

ZRT®-Matrix-Therapy: Chronic Pain Treatment and Enhancing Postsurgical Recovery

ZRT® Matrix Therapy is a therapeutic method, developed by Dr. B. Dickreiter, based on a set of techniques, established in the former USSR and Eastern Germany as a form of physiotherapy for athletes. It was found that athletes treated with Matrix Therapy experienced great benefits in terms of the rate and quality of recovery following training and competition. Their rate of injury decreased, especially in the muscles and tendons (the “musculoskeletal system”).

As a working principle, ZRT® Matrix Therapy enhances the regeneration of the body by supporting, and improving the metabolic situation of the individual cells which together make up our organs (such as muscles and tendons).

On this basis, ZRT® Matrix Therapy is relevant for every tissue and organ in the body and it’s application in cases of chronic pain and immobility in the muscle system has shown to be particularly effective.

ZRT® Matrix Therapy - Indications and Applications

The ZRT® Matrix Therapy is a therapeutic method, developed by Dr. B. Dickreiter, based on a set of techniques which were already established in the former USSR and Eastern Germany as a form of physiotherapy for athletes. It was found that athletes treated with ZRT® Matrix Therapy experienced great benefits in recovery following training and competition. Their rate of injury decreased, especially in the muscles and tendons (the “musculoskeletal system”).

Clinical Study and Effectiveness of ZRT®-Matrix-Therapy

Supervised clinical Study with 418 Patients followed for at least one year after ZRT®-Matrix Therapy

For many years the clinical application of cellbiologically orientated Matrix Therapy saw significant results. After DAK Gesundheit (one of the largest public health insurance companies in Germany with more than 14 million members), accepted ZRT®-Matrix-Therapy into their program, an extensive study of it's effectiveness was conducted.

ZRT®-Matrix-Therapy: Physiological Basics and General Methodology

A cell biological approach to rehabilitation is a fundamental change in the perspective of rehabilitation. It aims to find a direct approach to improving the functions of muscles and organs by addressing the real underlying issues.

Pain management for example, relied for too long on pain medication, that merely blocked the warning signal transfer from the damaged tissue to the brain. This approach was effectively "treating" pain sensibility, but not the underlying condition causing the discomfort.

A hamstring syndrome (achillodynia) or a heel spur may instead be treated by introduction of the vibration on the other side of the affected muscle. The support of the metabolism in the extracellular matrix takes place throughout the course of the muscle fibres. © Dr B. Dickreiter

Matrix therapy, also known as biomechanical muscle stimulation, has been a proven method of treatment for many years, in the areas of prevention, recovery and rehabilitation.

In the area of physical medicine Matrix therapy is mainly to treat a variety of painful conditions such as local circulatory problems, swelling and muscle tension.

Increasing the temperature of deep tissue by the application of Water filtered Infrared-A (wIRA)

The use of heat is a long, well established tradition in physical therapy. However an effective step forward in the use of local heat therapy, was achieved by the development of modern biophysics.

The natural heat source of the sun was used as the basis for this therapy. The infrared radiation from the sun, is filtered on it’s way to the ground, by the water vapor in the atmosphere. This natural filtering system was a model for the development of a therapeutically useful treatment device.

Regulation and management of local acidity in ZRT®-Matrix-Therapy

In general practice at the moment, only a little attention is paid to the regulation of the acid-base balance (bases can be thought of as the chemical opposite of acids). A reaction between an acid and base is called neutralisation. The organism is dependent in all areas on a balance of acids and bases so that the level of acid does not become too high.

Oxygen Supply as a therapeutic modality in ZRT®-Matrix-Therapy

Oxygen Supply defines the level of energy: O2 as an important aspect of cell regulation.

All human cells must constantly be supplied with sufficient oxygen (O2). This is a fundamental prerequisite for the formation energy of within cells, on which all life processes and functions depend. At rest through breathing, we take in approximately 250 ml of oxygen per minute.

Nutrition and Essential Nutrients - substitution of vital nutrients in ZRT®-Matrix-Therapy

With a healthy diet, the body is supplied with all the nutrients it requires to function effectively and efficiently.

These days, as foods such as fruits, vegetables, fish or meat (from conventional cultivation) often do not contain enough vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and trace elements, there are often nutrient deficiencies.
