Freiburg is home to Freiburg University, one of the most important centres of medical training in Germany. The city is the capital of Germany’s famous “Schwarzwald” or Black Forest. An area rich in nature, culture and tradition. Freiburg is easily accessible from Zurich, Basel and Frankfurt airports.

One of the most important cultural centres in Switzerland, Basel is located where the Swiss, German and French borders meet.

The River Rhine flows through the centre, dividing the city in two. The historical old town is situated on the southwest bank, with its medieval charm, leafy courtyards and 16th century townhouses. The Minster dominates the skyline from its lofty Rhineside terrace. Glitzy shopping streets connect the two main old town squares.

At the northeast frontier of France, bordered by the Rhine, lies Alsace. It is a region characterised by a gently rolling landscape, with mountains on one side.

A particularly scenic drive runs south from Strasbourg to Colmar, taking in pretty villages, castles, vineyards and magnificent forests.

It is an area famous for its cuisine which benefits from both its German and French influence.

Whilst in Freiburg, you are already within the 200km long and 60km wide area which makes up the Black Forest. It is not only the largest of the German forests but also the most varied and beautiful.

With its houses sheltering beneath massive sloping roofs, its famous gateau, its cuckoo clocks and colourful traditional dress, it provides a storybook picture of Germany.

You are likely to find plenty to keep you occupied in this most beautiful of cities. Adorned with over a thousand fountains, Zurich is situated where the River Limmat flows into the Lake Zurich.
